Episode Transcript
[00:00:06] Speaker A: We spent more than 25 years running parallel and somehow never met.
[00:00:11] Speaker B: And then we finally did.
[00:00:14] Speaker A: Turns out we had a lot to
[00:00:15] Speaker B: talk about, because even though our careers took us in different directions, we've both spent decades navigating business leadership, media change, and more than a little reinvention along the way.
[00:00:28] Speaker A: And all the things you learn after spending decades figuring it out as you go.
[00:00:33] Speaker B: We don't always come at things from the same direction.
[00:00:35] Speaker A: And the more we talk, the more we realize how much our stories have overlap.
[00:00:39] Speaker B: I'm Amy Calvert.
[00:00:41] Speaker A: And I'm Lisa Hardin. And this is the Long Game.
[00:00:44] Speaker B: Hello, Lisa. I'm so excited.
[00:00:47] Speaker A: I am, too.
[00:00:48] Speaker B: Debut.
[00:00:48] Speaker A: All right, so our first episode and. Have you ever met someone and wondered how your paths never crossed? That's us.
[00:00:56] Speaker B: That's us.
[00:00:57] Speaker A: Never crossed before. We've spent 25 years in the same city. Crazy enough working in the same type of industry.
[00:01:03] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:01:04] Speaker A: No men Knowing so many of the same people.
[00:01:06] Speaker B: Yeah. Never meeting.
[00:01:07] Speaker A: And probably attending the same events, too, if we really stopped and thought about it.
[00:01:11] Speaker B: The same place.
[00:01:12] Speaker A: Yeah. We went to the same place after each other, and we never met until this past April.
It's so crazy. So what's even stranger is that the more we talk, the more wise. More we realized our careers had been running in parallel.
[00:01:26] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:01:27] Speaker A: For 25 years.
[00:01:28] Speaker B: It's like we finish each other's sentences.
[00:01:30] Speaker A: And we've probably been in meetings together, I think, at some stage.
[00:01:33] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:01:34] Speaker A: With a client. Which is bizarre to me.
[00:01:36] Speaker B: Right.
[00:01:37] Speaker A: So why not do a podcast?
[00:01:39] Speaker B: I love it.
[00:01:40] Speaker A: I mean, we. It's like no brainer. We do love to talk.
[00:01:44] Speaker B: We've had some real great things in our life. Right.
[00:01:47] Speaker A: Yeah. And we finish each other's sentences, so. And it does. I said this to you not too long ago. It's like we have one brain.
[00:01:55] Speaker B: Yeah, I think so. I just want more of your brain because. Yeah, because it seems to be a little more there than mine these days.
[00:02:04] Speaker A: Well, I don't know. Mine's been a little sketchy the last week or so. I wouldn't. I don't know if it's been a good brain, but we have a. The thing about it is, even though we've been running parallel, we are experts in our own genres. Unique.
Yeah. So I. You. Media. Tv.
I've been on tv. I've been interviewed on tv, but I
[00:02:24] Speaker B: don't be on tv.
[00:02:25] Speaker A: Thank you. I don't know the background of tv, so it's changing.
[00:02:28] Speaker B: So. Man.
[00:02:29] Speaker A: Oh, well. It's a whole different world.
[00:02:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:02:31] Speaker A: That's a whole other topic. Another podcast.
[00:02:33] Speaker B: Podcast.
[00:02:34] Speaker A: Stay tuned. That's podcast, too.
[00:02:35] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:02:35] Speaker A: The question is, how did we ever. How did we miss each other? I knew of you. I have to say that I knew of you because I saw when you became a gm. Yeah. And I was pretty excited that it was a local Tulsa. Because they'd always brought in somebody else.
[00:02:51] Speaker B: Outside of Oklahoma. Yeah. Outside of the state.
[00:02:53] Speaker A: And I remember they made the announcement. I was like, oh, man, she's from Tulsa. So I did a little bit. This is. How many years ago did you get your.
[00:02:59] Speaker B: 20. 16.
Yeah. So 10 years.
[00:03:03] Speaker A: Wow.
[00:03:03] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:03:04] Speaker A: And I did a little digging on you.
[00:03:06] Speaker B: Oh.
[00:03:06] Speaker A: Because I was like, this is so cool that this girl's from Tulsa.
[00:03:10] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:03:10] Speaker A: So I knew of you. I knew who you were. And you knew the name of my company.
[00:03:14] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, I knew your company. I, you know, I knew you. I just didn't know you. You know, I knew the great things that you were doing and sponsoring and, you know, the events and, I mean, you name it, you were touching. But I didn't know the Lisa Heart, but I do now.
[00:03:29] Speaker A: So fun.
[00:03:29] Speaker B: God timing. And I think it's perfect that it's landed now.
[00:03:33] Speaker A: So the thing that we have fun talking about is she'll bring up somebody or I'll bring up somebody. They're like, oh, my gosh, he's my best friend from high school.
[00:03:40] Speaker B: Or, yeah, I think that's that for them. Or up in church together. I think that's the Oklahoma standard, too. Like, a lot of us being from here, we just, you know, everybody's touched somebody's life in some way. I think it's so interesting and unique when we. We share these stories and you're able to go, ah, okay.
And there's a lot of times I think that we've stopped talking. And so I love the fact that with this, through podcasting, we're able to. Those conversations are starting up again, and I think it's important that we learn from the past and look forward to the future, and we can share these stories that hopefully impact other people's lives and laugh and cry.
[00:04:15] Speaker A: Well, and I think that it's going to be. This podcast is going to be fun because we've got two different areas of work that really come together and are really one, when you think about it. And so I think the balance that we're going to provide for this podcast is going to be pretty crazy. And I think we're going to see as we go along that this podcast was meant to be and that may be. And that's the big question is why did we meet when we did? Right. Perfect timing in so many ways.
[00:04:42] Speaker B: The experience and stories, I think. And we're both seasoned.
[00:04:45] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:04:46] Speaker B: I like to say seasoned in our lives.
[00:04:48] Speaker A: I just had a birthday and I
[00:04:49] Speaker B: like, girl, you look amazing. Amazing, amazing. And I think that, again, we're now at a point in our lives where we can kind of share what we've learned. And we're both redefining our lives in our seasoned years.
And we're really excited about it. It's, you know, scary, but, you know, we're able to start fresh almost. And there's some interesting. I think a lot of women out there kind of in our situations are facing the same thing right now.
[00:05:17] Speaker A: Oh, I think so, too. And it's also knowing how that when those opportunities, I'm going to call them opportunities, come along that you can actually, as women, we're tough and we're strong, and we can actually take that and redefine ourselves.
[00:05:32] Speaker B: Right.
[00:05:33] Speaker A: And make it even more powerful.
[00:05:35] Speaker B: Yeah. Not let fear. You know, a lot of times, I know sometimes it's fearful to try something new because it's deviating away from what you've known for so long. What's been comfortable. We talked about that. You know, we get caught up. I do 31 years being comfortable in traditional broadcasts with traditional broadcast dying and nobody watching. How am I going to redefine? Because I still. I'm going to work for quite a while. I need to, you know, And I think that these unique relationships like ours have brought me to a point where it. It's fresh, it's exciting, and you're doing it not alone, you know, And I think that's. I hope that that's what our listeners can see and know that they're not in this alone. And we want to bring some of the funny stories, some of emotional stories, you know, stories that tick you off. Let's be honest and learn from that.
[00:06:22] Speaker A: Yeah. So I met Amy because I had her come to see a client because she works for a weather. And you can talk about the weather app. But so I reached out to them because I wanted my client to sponsor them because I see what they're doing. They're doing great things in Tulsa, and it's really exciting. I didn't know it was you that I was reaching out to. Cause I just did. To the generic email address. And then when she. When I saw. When you replied back and I saw your name, I was like, oh, that's so cool. That she works for him now.
[00:06:49] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:06:50] Speaker A: So then we have a meeting and
[00:06:51] Speaker B: so, yeah, so, you know, I walk in the room. Well, first of all, I was excited when Lisa reached out and again, I remember.
So I'm a part of. I'll rewind a little bit. I'm part of mcwx.
It's a Tulsa DMA driven eastern Oklahoma local weather app that's being built by Mike Collier and myself and our team. We have great team of people on that's really serving our community in Oklahoma. And we're looking to do this and grow this. You know, in other states. It's happening. People are leaving that traditional broadcast and we all know the number one reason people need that a lot is weather. You know, I've spent 33 years in this industry and I was able to join Mike, who's a seasoned meteorologist in. In Tulsa and well known huge social platform. And this thing has just grown so quickly. And so as we developed this local app that serves the communities stuff, that's where our relationship came together, which was so cool. So when you reached out, I remember thinking, and m mentioned to me, he's like, oh, I know her. She's so cool. You're gonna love her. She's in her. You know, we've, I've interviewed her a few times having been in traditional broadcast, you know, when you would do major events and different things. And I was like, okay. He's like, yeah, I. I know you two are gonna hit it off. And I remember walking the room and seeing now you all know Lisa and if you don't, she's this stunner. Beautiful hair, well put together, seriously. And I tell you, pearls right now, like, if you saw right now, she looks like a magazine cover. You know, I walk in and I'm pretty sure I've worn these pants three times this week. I need to was.
But yeah, I walk in and she's just all put together and she's sitting there with, with her client and stuff. And I was like, wow. And when you just began to talk about, you know, what you were expecting, what you were seeing through us and the app with McWx, I was like, I like this lady. And I feel like we just immediately hit it off. Our brains were right in the, you know, serving our clients, growing, helping to promote one another. What can we do? And it was just, you know, we just got along so great. Right at the beginning, even when I left, Mike looked at me and said, hey, are you and Lisa friends?
And I said, no. Why do you ask? He's like. Because literally, I really thought you two were like best friends in there. And I said, I know. I love her. So that was really my first impression. And then from then on, it was just learning from you and then starting to share our stories. And you opened up a friendship to me that has just been so impactful in a short amount of time. So.
[00:09:13] Speaker A: Well, and I think it's funny because as we get older, I think it's harder to meet friends or have friends. And I think, you know, I made a post for my birthday that as I've, you know, I don't really pay so much attention to the birthday as much as I pay attention to who shows up in your life. And so, like I said, I had known you from only, you know, on the outskirts of when I just knowing what you had done and knowing when you went to your first station as a general manager. And so then when you responded and I saw your name, I was like, oh, wow, she's left there, because I didn't know. And you're working with Mike now. And so I was kind of excited about that. But then after our meeting and listening to you and watching you and just the dynamic, because I think you and I both ran the meeting pretty much.
[00:09:57] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:09:57] Speaker A: The whole time. And strong women, two in a room. Bad for everybody else.
[00:10:03] Speaker B: Right.
[00:10:03] Speaker A: And so I just remember thinking when you. When we concluded the meeting and I told the client he really needed to do it and he did sponsor it, which is exciting. I just thought, I. I need to be with them. I need to meet with them more. I need to have some sort of something with them. I need to either get them with more clients. Like, there was just this feeling of I need to work with them somehow,
[00:10:26] Speaker B: I think, between us, you know.
[00:10:27] Speaker A: Yeah, it was.
[00:10:28] Speaker B: I think I said it. You and I were talking one time, I said, I feel like, you know, for 31 years I've, you know, been doing what I think really what God had placed me, you know, and doing things and. But it's the same old thing, working for the corporate giant, working for, you know, people contributing to, you know, grow their company. You know, that was my job. And you can often listen. I mean, we're working to pay bills, right? Yeah, we all are. I mean, I'll just, you know, and I've got two kids and there's things that we have to do, and you kind of lose that passion when you first start right when you're young. And I had a lot more energy. And I remember feeling like, wow, like in Energized. Like, you know, even coming to this new job with Mike and McWx, it was. I was excited again because the future is so bright and big and I think the people that now are coming into my life and feeding into me, like you and others, that I've been really blessed that, you know, when I was in another position, you know, it was just kind of the same stuff every day. And now I have the opportunity to experience and learn and grow all over again and learn from you and your expertise and hear stories that you've encountered and, you know, and I hope that I can share that too with others as to, you know, what I've encountered in my time and. And as we forge this new journey together, exciting things.
[00:11:43] Speaker A: Well, after you. After the meeting concluded, I think it was the next day, I just kept thinking about it and so reached out to you and I was like, let's have a meeting. Because I thought that's somebody I want to work with. And I didn't know what that looked like, but I just thought, I want to get together. And so we ended up meeting here at my office and then. Which turned into a two hour meeting just because then we. That's when we found out we know so many people and we're like, where?
[00:12:08] Speaker B: I was there.
[00:12:09] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:12:09] Speaker B: Oh my gosh, we just missed it, you know. And you knew the exact people that I worked with.
[00:12:12] Speaker A: Yeah. It's so crazy.
[00:12:15] Speaker B: I love it. And again, I think that's a God wink. And like you mentioned it, as we've gotten older and we're so. We're working all the time, you know, families that we're taking care of, our parents and our kids and stuff. It's a lot of times we don't have the ability or time to welcome new people and. And that's what I remember telling my husband that it's like, man, at. At my age and being able to find someone that, listen, I can't every day keep up with friendships because I'm, you know, sometimes I'm just crazy life, right? Yeah, you're the same. You know, and I love the friendships where it's like, you know, a day, a week, maybe even a month goes by and I pick up the phone and nothing has. It's almost like nothing has changed. I feel like that with you.
[00:12:53] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, yeah.
[00:12:54] Speaker B: You know, and you're. I value that because, you know, there's a lot of people that you just high and buy, but the people you can really be yourself with. And even on your bad days, you can Be real with. That's very far and few between. So I really cherish those friendships and I know I found that with you and I'm excited about that.
[00:13:09] Speaker A: I am too. I do think that I feel the same way about you. I think we have the same values, we have the same morals, we have the same work ethic, we have the same belief in what good people and bad people and what you should, what kind of person you should be. And I think that's right. The strength that we both saw in each other. I had heard about you and I knew of you because I did the deep dive when you became the general manager, social expert.
[00:13:31] Speaker B: Go in AI all that stuff, you know, you are able to track Lisa,
[00:13:35] Speaker A: would we say, oh, I'm CSI Harden.
[00:13:36] Speaker B: That's right. Yes, I Harden.
[00:13:38] Speaker A: I can find you.
[00:13:39] Speaker B: Lisa can find you. I'm just saying that I found the
[00:13:42] Speaker A: guy that broke into my office and got him in jail girl.
[00:13:45] Speaker B: So listen, and those apartments need you. That's all I'm saying.
[00:13:49] Speaker A: Well, and the funny thing is is that that's what I do is I live on the computer because I, I manage so much. I'm digital footprint of people that it's all out there. And so if you get on there and dig, you can really get some info about people. And I've, I've got a lot.
[00:14:04] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, when I speak to young people just getting into the industry, the first thing today, now that I say to them I didn't say this 10 years ago, is that put nothing out on social that you don't want to follow you the rest of your life and even after you're gone.
[00:14:17] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:14:18] Speaker B: You know, I mean it's just we don't realize that. I mean it's. How are you going to see yourself at 20 versus 40? Think about that.
And you know, as a hiring manager, the first place I would go to is social media.
I want to see what your story is. I want to see what you're posting. It says a lot about who we are as people, our values, you know, are we going to show up for work on time?
[00:14:41] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:14:41] Speaker B: You know, and so. Yeah, anyway, I digress on that.
[00:14:44] Speaker A: Well, as someone that's a serial dater and I, I mean I will before I've. I've even gotten so bad as I met a guy at a birthday party of a friend and we went out and he was recently divorced. Red flag. I don't know. Anyway, I found. Because you can find everything. Oh yeah. I didn't believe him and so I, I Dug and I dug and I found the mortgage because he said he was still paying for the family house.
[00:15:14] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:15:14] Speaker A: With his ex wife. And then he was bought a new house. I found the mortgage where he is in the court records that show that he is paying the mortgage on the family home. And he is just bought a new home.
[00:15:27] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:15:27] Speaker A: I'm not bad at all. So I found that everything he told me was true.
[00:15:31] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:15:31] Speaker A: So I'm just saying that if I go out with you, I already know
[00:15:35] Speaker B: the deal, know that Lisa's gonna have all the deeds. So don't try to slide anything by her.
[00:15:39] Speaker A: It's so. But again, that just goes back to everything is out there out there. You just gotta know where to go get it.
[00:15:45] Speaker B: It's the same with the political. And it's like I want to tell someone. No one's mind has ever been changed
[00:15:50] Speaker A: by your post said, come on. Yeah, but they think, oh, I know. Even like the talk show hosts think that they can convince you one.
And if you get up and you won a Grammy. I don't really care what I want
[00:16:02] Speaker B: to hear your song. I don't want to hear you politically. I know. Please.
[00:16:05] Speaker A: It's so crazy.
[00:16:07] Speaker B: Again, that's why the ratings are tanking for those things.
[00:16:10] Speaker A: Well, that is very true.
[00:16:11] Speaker B: Whole nother story.
[00:16:13] Speaker A: So I guess the biggest question is, and we've kind of talked about that is do you think people come into your life when they're supposed to?
[00:16:20] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:16:21] Speaker A: I 1,000% believe that.
[00:16:23] Speaker B: 100%. I think that I call them God winks a lot of time. I think that God's timing is perfect and you know, my faith is strong, but I'm also grounded that you know, sometimes you can be so spiritual big, you know, earthly good. And I've have that reality check with God that I talk to God just like I talk to you, you know. And a lot of times he has to slap me down and you know, thank God every day his grace is new because Lord knows I need it. But I think that, you know, our footsteps are ordered and I think that the right timing for everyone, it just, it just happens, you know, and. And I know exactly when I meet someone like with you, and I'm like, okay. And then there's just kind of that you just know.
[00:16:59] Speaker A: Yeah. And I do think like that saying that people are in your life for a reason. A season and a lifetime is so true. And you think about the people that came to your life. They probably benefited it for a short period of time and they're gone yeah. And you're okay with that? Because they really were just meant to be there for that, whatever that was. I think about that with every guy I've dated. It's been a lot that they were there for a reason. It was that short reason, but not for a lifetime. And.
[00:17:23] Speaker B: Right.
[00:17:23] Speaker A: Boot them on. Yeah.
[00:17:24] Speaker B: Well, it's funny. My husband. So we've been married. We've been together almost 30 years, and I still remember the time we met at Channel 8 and Tulsa, and we laugh about it. He goes, would you ever think that now, 30 years later, we'd be married with two kids, two daughters, and we'd be. I said no, because I remember looking at you thinking, there's no way I'm dating that guy. He's trouble. You know, in your 20s.
[00:17:45] Speaker A: Right.
[00:17:45] Speaker B: And, you know, he pursued for quite a while, and it wasn't like that in my life at all. And I'm like, who is this guy? Why? You know, And. But looking back, I see now. And that's what we're so unique in, that our lives are. You know, you have these stories. You traveled the world and dated men all across the world, and, you know, I just love listening. Listening. It's like a, you know, a rich, romantic story and stuff.
[00:18:06] Speaker A: And.
[00:18:07] Speaker B: And my romantic story is I found my guy, you know, sitting in a dilapidated old newsroom, you know, at the age of 22, and not realizing that, you know, I'm very thankful. So I think we both have some really cool stories.
[00:18:20] Speaker A: We do.
[00:18:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:18:20] Speaker A: I actually just found the. The folder yesterday in my desk of my Amsterdam Adventure. Oh, that's.
[00:18:29] Speaker B: Yeah. That's got to be a whole podcast.
[00:18:30] Speaker A: Yeah. It was pretty cool because your story
[00:18:33] Speaker B: is so good on that. I just sat and listened with my, you know, hands under my chin.
I was like, oh, man, this is the.
[00:18:40] Speaker A: Flipping through those documents. I remember at one point I was reading, like, a memo that I sent out to the president of the company after I think I'd been there for a while. And I'm reading that going, wow, I sounded pretty smart.
[00:18:53] Speaker B: Oh, girl, you are smart.
[00:18:54] Speaker A: But now, like, I think we just rely on so much on. On the Internet.
[00:18:58] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:18:58] Speaker A: That listening to.
Reading that through, I was like, wow. She sounded like she knew what she was talking about. Yeah. Which looking back on it, I mean, I feel like I have so much more knowledge now than I did then. I was 20.
[00:19:09] Speaker B: But you built a whole international office.
[00:19:11] Speaker A: Yeah, I did, but. But I. And I did, and I did. I worked hard when I was there because I was scared not to work hard. And I did work really hard. But it's just funny that, I don't know, I sounded.
Well, yeah. At 24.
[00:19:23] Speaker B: That I'm like. Because, you know, every five minutes they're like, hey, hey, Siri. Or their chat g. Guess what? Mom had to actually go and get an encyclopedia, you know, or. But. And they're like, what?
[00:19:33] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:19:34] Speaker B: It's so different looking. You know, you just. I am not this person that would look forward and. And think that where we are today, 20, 30, 40, 50 years ago, it's so cool to me. And then I think, how's the next 20, 30, 40 years going to. You know, and how it's paving the way for our future.
[00:19:52] Speaker A: Right.
[00:19:53] Speaker B: And stuff. Kids and stuff like that, and our kids now and their families.
[00:19:56] Speaker A: So it is crazy. But, yeah, I think Amsterdam could be a fun podcast.
[00:20:01] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. The people want that, Lisa. Trust me, you do. So those listening, you want it?
[00:20:07] Speaker A: That first memo I got it.
One of the guys I told the story about booked my first hotel for me when I was coming over to look for an apartment. And he put on there, call me when you get here. Here's my home number. We can go out for dinner. And he's the one that rented the whole room and flowers and. And so just to read that, I was like, oh, it just brought me so far back to that time, which was such a fun time. So I literally went through every piece of paper. It's about. It's a thick folder. And I flipped through everyone and read all the memos and had the real estate person. So yesterday was like, so nostalgic. Reading through all that time.
[00:20:42] Speaker B: Yeah. You need to write a book.
[00:20:43] Speaker A: I know I should. I had some great stories.
[00:20:45] Speaker B: You'd be great at it. I'd read it.
[00:20:46] Speaker A: You would?
[00:20:47] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:20:48] Speaker A: What is like, I want your blonde
[00:20:50] Speaker B: bombshell face on the front cover again. Marilyn Monroe.
[00:20:54] Speaker A: Stopped.
[00:20:55] Speaker B: Stop, stop. She's got great hair. Oh, love it.
[00:20:57] Speaker A: Thank you.
Cost me a lot of money, this hair.
[00:21:00] Speaker B: Don't look at my roots. I was just thinking about. It's been a long time. I need to get in. It's just there hasn't been time.
[00:21:05] Speaker A: Life is crazy.
Do you think the timing finally lined up? Besides we said God thing. But why, like, why now? That's the part that I think about often. Because obviously that sponsorship and that relationship is changing and it has changed since we first met. And so it's interesting that, like, I think about, like, was that. Was this the reason why that happened?
[00:21:29] Speaker B: Yeah, I, you know, I don't think either of us realized. I mean, I certainly didn't. And I know you've shared with me, you didn't. That our lives would change so greatly in. In a short amount of time.
[00:21:38] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:21:39] Speaker B: Things would. We would begin to redefine who we were in our 50s and 60s and. And rebuild careers that, you know, we've been very blessed to have, and it's very successful, but also take those and now start again. Almost a ground level of rebuilding to fit in today's, you know, 2026.
And so, you know, I think that, again, you are drawn. And we've been able to really build relationships and. And been good stewards in what we do, that we're kind of brought together at the right time, and the two of us are, you know, listen, we are not. We don't like to sit still.
[00:22:14] Speaker A: No.
[00:22:15] Speaker B: And, you know, we want to be game changers. We want to be people that have action. Right.
And I think we just feed upon that. So, I don't know. I mean, I just think the timing is right. In my life, I always say every opportunity that the doors opened was just the right time. But looking back at it, going through it, sometimes you don't see that.
[00:22:34] Speaker A: Right, Right.
[00:22:35] Speaker B: But then you can look it back and go, okay, I get now why. Listen, when I got eliminated eight months ago from my job, because I literally made a post about faith. Not even anything, you know, and they, you know, my company tried to say other things, but we. We all knew. They knew. I was like, what in the world? And I could have never imagined that. It took God really kind of forcing me out because I was comfortable. Was I happy? No. And my health wasn't great. I was, you know, stressed working in an environment that was toxic. It wasn't good. Sometimes God has to kind of shove us in a different way out. And immediately it's fear and worry and. Listen, I went through all the 18 stages of grief, is what I like to say, but grief brought me through to the triumph and the greatness of what today is. And it doesn't mean today's perfect, doesn't mean that life is perfect for us. But we're growing and it's. It's positivity, and you're running into people that. It's like feeding your soul and. And I cherish that long way to get to it. But I'm excited about what the next steps are, and every day's a new journey, you know? Would I be doing a podcast? No. Because why would anybody want to listen to me? You know? That's what. And then just to be next to you and learn, I'm like, heck, yes.
[00:23:45] Speaker A: Well. And I feel the same way about you. Like, I'm learning so much.
Even just your confidence and your strategy, I guess, for lack of better word, just the fact that you, you just have conversations and you're just confident about them. And I don't.
[00:24:02] Speaker B: Probably not always the best, but I just, you know, I'm like, listen, at
[00:24:05] Speaker A: this point, it is what it is.
[00:24:08] Speaker B: And it's. I feel like I'm just gonna get who I am. And it's not always perfect. I want to always encourage people or, you know, when the last word be, leave them encouraged. And if I can look for the goodness, I will. And that's why I need people in my life also that can feed into that because it's not always great. You know, we face things in life that's hard. Well.
[00:24:25] Speaker A: And I feel like I'm kind of the same way. Sometimes I think I'm, you know, I come across as arrogant or cocky because I know my stuff.
[00:24:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:33] Speaker A: And I think you're the same way. You know your stuff and you know what you're talking about. And you don't question it because you know it. You've lived it. You've walked in there. Yeah, same thing with me. Yeah. I don't know about. I still feel season. People go, oh, they're just old.
[00:24:46] Speaker B: Hey, you know, listen, don't say that, people.
[00:24:48] Speaker A: I just had a birthday, so I feel, I'm feeling it coming up.
[00:24:51] Speaker B: I'm feeling it too.
[00:24:52] Speaker A: When is yours?
[00:24:53] Speaker B: September.
[00:24:54] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:24:54] Speaker B: 52. Yep.
[00:24:56] Speaker A: I'm not even gonna say mine because you look amazing. It's ridiculous to be that age, though. It's like, you know what, though?
[00:25:03] Speaker B: Every day, though, I'm like, thank you. I'm glad.
[00:25:05] Speaker A: Well, no, believe me, right? Believe me.
[00:25:07] Speaker B: And that's a whole nother story too, where you come from. I mean, God's not finished with you yet. Look at the amazing things that, you know, you've walked through and shouldn't be here today. And you are right.
[00:25:17] Speaker A: And it does change your perspective on birthdays, you know, and I, I catch myself like that, criticizing birthdays because it's like an age related. But when you go through cancer and you survive it, those birthdays mean so much more. Right? And they're a blessing. And so I, I used to literally, you know, reprimand people that would complain about getting older because I'm like, no, you just got to another year, so be fortunate. But I catch myself as I'm further away from the cancer at nine years that I'm getting back to that I'm getting older. And I'm like, you got to stop doing that. Because it is a blessing.
[00:25:52] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:25:52] Speaker A: That I get to wake up every day.
[00:25:54] Speaker B: It is.
[00:25:55] Speaker A: And so I need to get away from that age thing. But, man, that's hard.
[00:25:59] Speaker B: I mean, we beat ourselves up. We always look at the negative first.
[00:26:02] Speaker A: Right.
[00:26:02] Speaker B: Because it's always the easiest to remember. We forget all the big wins, but the one negative is what tries to stick into our brain.
[00:26:09] Speaker A: Right.
[00:26:09] Speaker B: And I have to remind myself, no, we're going to look at all the good things that there are and we're not going to allow that one thing to bring us down. But it's easy to do. That's why you need good women, good people in your life to encourage you and lift you up. And that's what we're here for.
[00:26:22] Speaker A: Well, and I've always been a big believer in the power of a tribe. Yep. A female tribe. And that's why I've started, you know, all the things I've done with your dinners. My dinners. And then I've always had a girls night out group that we go and do fun things because I do believe in the power of that and I do think it does really lift each other up and it really helps with how we get through life. And I think about women and spouses and the fact, you know, it just gives them an outlet that they can complain about their husbands or whatever it is or their kids or what they're going through at home. And you just have that girl power that can really support you and help you feel alone.
[00:26:57] Speaker B: It's a safety net and it's encourager. And it's like sometimes you just want to know, I'm not the only one walking through this right now. And it's not that you wish bad on anybody else, but you just want to feel like you said, it's a perfect word, a world word, a girl tribe, you know, And I think I find such richness in that of being encouraged and lifting one another up. Because women can be catty, women can be cutthroat women. I mean, we're some of the worst. Right.
And as I've gotten older, I've been able to step back and go, I really want to pick and choose people in my life. They're going to lift me up that I can lift up and that I want my girls to. To see these rich relationships you can have and it not be this competitive cutthroat world that, you know, we end coming through our line of. Of. And that'll be a whole nother thing.
[00:27:43] Speaker A: Right. Whoa. The things we have to put up with in the corporate world.
Yeah. I think that's a. That's a podcast on its own of just the corporate world and what women go through. But, you know, I had a girls night out group that I started 2003.
[00:27:58] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:27:59] Speaker A: And I mean, at that some point, there were 60 some women in. And we did everything. We did glass blowing classes. I did a networking where you could come and network, promote your business. I mean, I've done it all. And it was a. I mean, we'd have, you know, I don't know, 12, 15, 20 people per. It was monthly. Yeah. And we did everything that you could think of in Tulsa to do. Like I said, glass blowing. We did pottery making. We just did it all. It was just a time to come together, and it was always about that power of a tribe. And I always think about how all the years that I did it, and I only stopped doing it because I just was exhausted and I kind of ran out of things to do.
[00:28:33] Speaker B: A few hundred other things you're doing.
[00:28:34] Speaker A: Yeah.
And so I was like, I can't do that anymore. But what the coolest thing about all that is all those years. I think I ended it in 2003. And I started in 2023. And I started it in 2003.
[00:28:49] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:28:50] Speaker A: And pretty much monthly, I take a break every once in a while when I just get burned out. And then I'd start it back up because everybody would be messaging me going, when are we going to do that again? But through all those years, never one time was there any kind of drama.
[00:29:04] Speaker B: See, women. Yeah.
[00:29:05] Speaker A: Because you. You don't need it.
[00:29:06] Speaker B: Right.
[00:29:07] Speaker A: When there's a group of women that are supporting each other and being there for each other, the drama doesn't come with it. Like, it's. When you're competitive, I think women get really competitive with each other. And then it becomes. And somehow a man gets involved somehow. And then it becomes just this.
[00:29:20] Speaker B: Maybe if this podcast is successful, we can start like some quarterly thing.
[00:29:24] Speaker A: Like, maybe. I would love that.
[00:29:25] Speaker B: Seriously. And we bring together monthly and people can come and we just build each other up. Like, we share businesses, we share ideas. I mean, how cool is it? Just you and I talking in the past months that we've become friends. The ideas we've generated off of each other.
[00:29:41] Speaker A: Right.
[00:29:41] Speaker B: That, oh, my gosh, have us excited.
[00:29:43] Speaker A: That's why this podcast, a little Brainstorming session with a bunch of women. Because there's. I mean, the thing about Tulsa, I've said it for years, is if you go. Even go to a restaurant and you look around the room at a restaurant, the women in the room versus the men in the room, you can see the strength and the power.
And I just think we have a lot of really great professional women in this town that really have set a lot of milestones and done a lot of things that probably don't get recognized.
[00:30:10] Speaker B: Yeah. The ones that say, you know, I think of, you know, Bama Pie Paula, you know, I think of Jill Donovan with rustica. I think of, you know, what you've done through your company. There's so many. Karen Keith, who is our, you know, great friend of mine, people I've learned from, you know, a lot of. A lot of women who come through and just done so many cool things. So I just think that there's so much. Like you said, that is a great point. Sitting in the room, looking around, I'm like, wow, I get to learn under these people. I get to be encouraged by them.
[00:30:38] Speaker A: Yeah. I say it all the time when I'm out with friends in a restaurant. Like, look around the room. Just look around the restaurant.
[00:30:44] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:30:44] Speaker A: And they think I'm going to pick out. You're going to point out some. The men in the room, but they're never that great in the room. I mean, when you really think about it. And I'm like, look, like there are so many people in this room that probably have really done some amazing things. You can just tell by how they're dressed or, you know, how they hold themselves. And so I do think that's not. That's a really good idea. Is coming up with something to do to get women together to just talk about all those things. Right. Because there's a lot to talk about.
[00:31:11] Speaker B: Right?
[00:31:11] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, for sure.
[00:31:12] Speaker B: Okay. We're marking that down. Yeah. If you like that idea, let us know.
[00:31:15] Speaker A: We'll get you. We'll invite you.
[00:31:17] Speaker B: Let's do it.
[00:31:17] Speaker A: Yeah. We're running out of time. Yep.
[00:31:19] Speaker B: So I think this conversation, what, 25 years in the making, for sure.
[00:31:24] Speaker A: 25.
[00:31:24] Speaker B: We are starting this first debut podcast, and I think the amount of information that you and I are going to be able to bring, share with our listeners, not only from friendships to triumphs and tragedies, but really as we face a rebuilding of our lives and careers, making money, building up, you know, relationships where we're at. That's really what this journey is going
[00:31:49] Speaker A: to be two women that have seen it all and we're going to talk about it. It.
[00:31:53] Speaker B: Yeah. And nothing is off limits.
[00:31:56] Speaker A: Nothing.
[00:31:56] Speaker B: Nothing.
[00:31:57] Speaker A: No.
[00:31:58] Speaker B: My husband may not like that.
He says, I don't know, girl. Listen. I sometimes listen to you and I'm like, oh, Lord, what is she gonna say next? That's where you need to tune in because you never know what anything's gonna say next.
[00:32:10] Speaker A: And I've got some stories, too.
[00:32:11] Speaker B: Lisa's got the best.
[00:32:13] Speaker A: I think that's the thing, is that it's going to be really an open on us and feedback from you will be great. Teach us things so we can learn.
[00:32:20] Speaker B: So stay tuned. More to come. We're just starting. This is just the beginning, Lisa.
[00:32:24] Speaker A: I know. We'll see you next week.
[00:32:26] Speaker B: Bye.
